Deville Loudspeakers And Stands By Fleetwood Sound Company

Fleetwood Sound Company’s DeVille loudspeaker is an extremely high-quality, compact, and beautiful, two-way design made from sustainably harvested, solid Pennsylvania ash hardwood.

Product Description

DeVille loudspeakers are made from sustainably harvested, solid Pennsylvania ash hardwood that has been torrefied (thermally treated for tone and stability.) It is the most powerful and efficient design possible for its size, using real professional drivers capable of much lower distortion and higher power handling.

With the DeVille you can have a concert in your home and turn up the volume far beyond any comparable loudspeaker or you can set them up for late-night nearfield listening and have them just whisper into your ears. With a horn-loaded tweeter and a 94dB bass/midrange driver, you can drive these with just 8 watts. Jaguar has a range of excellent amplification options to match with the DeVille, but just about any amplifier will run the DeVille’s, from low powered tube to high power solid state.

The DeVille is available in numerous beautiful finishes, including real solid hardwood, leather, Japanese rice paper, and Farrow and Ball paints from England. We can also work with you to create your own special version of the DeVille.

Torrefaction is a relatively new process that roasts wood in an oxygen-free environment (so it does not catch fire). Torrefaction removes water and changes organic chemicals inside the wood’s cell structure, resulting in an aged, darkened wood that is more stable and tonally improved. This process is now used by most of the world’s finest guitar makers (Martin, Gibson, Bourgeois for example). Fleetwood Sound uses torrefied ash to produce speakers with superior sound quality that are also more stable in a variety of environments. All DeVille models have a torrefied top and bottom, as well as the most vital part for torrefaction, the horn.

The DeVille SQ (Superior Quality) model is the ultimate DeVille. The entire enclosure is made of solid Pennsylvania ash, either Natural (light color) or torrefied Light, Medium, or Dark; the Natural finish wood cannot be torrefied as it darkens the wood. The phase plug is cast from a 3D printed sand mold in solid bronze, then patinated, polished, and lacquered. Internal wiring is solid silver, and the crossover components are of the finest quality.

The Horn

Fleetwood designed a gorgeous, six-inch thick, solid wood conical tweeter horn with a proprietary phase plug, which disperses the high frequencies and prevents internal reflections and cancellations of the sound waves. And like OMA, the wooden horn, and other components are treated by hand with an heirloom finish.

The DeVille is bottom ported and comes with a base for placement on a stable surface such as a cabinet, table, or shelf.

The rear panel of the speaker is fashioned from a solid sheet of phenolic, a composite material chosen for its anti-resonant characteristics.

Speaker Stands

Optional tripod floor stands (24″ tall) are available in two orientations and are offered in Black Paint, Light Ash, Medium Ash, and Dark Ash. We highly recommend you order the stands with the DeVille because first of all, they’re amazing but also because they’re ideal for DeVille’s bottom-ported design and are easily mounted to the slot-fittings at the bottom of the speakers.

“Everything about the speakers screams perfection, from their cabinets — made from thermally treated solid ash hardwood — to the audio components inside.”

The Absolute Sound
“The DeVille has impacted the landscape of two-way stand-mount designs in a significant way, so much so, that it has become my favorite speaker in this genre. It’s agnostic when it comes to power amps and is comfortable with almost anything north of 8Wpc. It offers a winning combination of excellent engineering and exceptional execution, and is capable of weaving a considerable amount of sonic magic, of recreating a moment in space and time that is utterly convincing.”

“The overall in-room response, as measured on the tweeter axis and within a few inches above and below the tweeter midline, was fairly uniform to about 300Hz, where room modes began to appear. A response dip of about 3dB was seen in the upper midrange with the measurement mic positioned a few inches below the horn. I’m not suggesting that a single measurement is predictive of the in-room tonal balance when listening in the far field, where spatial averaging of sound energy becomes important. However, I had set up the DeVille as I would a mid-field studio monitor, and found listening height to be a critical factor to obtaining the most accurate tonal balance. Mounted on the 24-inch-tall factory stands, the horn ended up above my ear height. I experienced a significant increase in upper-midrange energy when I stood up, such that my ears either lined up level with or were slightly above the horn. I went the extra mile here and acquired 16-inch-tall stands (featuring a slight tilt back) so I could lower the horn midline by about 8 inches and match the horn height to my ear level. This gave the most accurate tonal fidelity with my favorite sopranos.”
